In 2018, we shouldn’t focus on chasing the shiny objects, the bright lights, the latest and greatest features in social media.
You, as a business owner, need to focus on what’s working right now, while keeping an eye on the latest and greatest to make sure you know what’s happening within that space.

👉 1. Facebook Advertising
I know what you’re thinking.
“Everybody is banging on about Facebook advertising”.
“Facebook advertising is really difficult to do”.
“Facebook advertising can be really confusing”.
Then, on top of that, you’ve heard that Facebook advertising as a platform is getting heavily saturated, that Facebook is running out of room. They don’t have enough real estate to show ads like they used to.
But don’t stress, because even though this is the case, Facebook advertising is still the number one way to market your business in 2018.
Yes, the price for Facebook advertising is going up. Yes, it can still be confusing and really tough to manage.
However, it is still underpriced and as a marketing tool, it is very, very effective for pretty much any business in the world.
You need to jump in, have a go, and talk to an expert in the space. See what ideas, tips and pointers they can give you.

This is another term that you’ve probably already heard a lot about, but influencer marketing works.
Influencer marketing is about people trusting other people. It’s about people trusting influencers who they have built a relationship with online.
The statistics don’t lie, the numbers don’t lie. So many of us trust other humans, even strangers, over brands.
Simply look at any review site like TripAdvisor. We jump on there and we take the advice and recommendations of complete strangers before making a purchasing decision.

They know, like and trust that person, and when the influencer recommends a product, service, brand or business, they feel like they can trust that person and the service they recommend.

Again, live video is something that we’ve heard a lot about. It’s been around for a couple of years now, but it’s really starting to mature as a marketing strategy.
Video as a whole is incredibly powerful, and live video gives you that extra edge. It’s raw, it’s authentic, it’s real time, and viewers can relate to it.
Live video is powerful because it does get extra organic reach in the newsfeeds, especially when we’re talking about Facebook. Facebook really want users to be using live video to show their authentic experience.

It’s the most powerful form of content right now, and it’s getting the most amount of cut through when it comes to digital and social media marketing, for pretty much any business.
It just works.
Video is becoming so much cheaper. It’s really flexible, allowing people to give their target audience a real insight into their business and the services they offer.
Instead of just reading words on paper, or looking at a still image, it gives a much richer experience, creating a wide range of benefits when it comes to social media.
So whether you’re talking about pre-recorded video or live video, really experiment with pushing the boundaries further in 2018, and I promise you will see the benefits.
👉 5. Artificial Intelligence (AI)
For 5 and 6, these are important ‘trends’/changes that will continue to develop in 2018, so keep an eye on this space.
One of them is AI, or artificial intelligence. We’re starting to see a lot of growth with chatbots and natural language sequencing, which is becoming a lot more relevant in the digital marketing space.
Maybe have a play with it, adding a chatbot to your Facebook page and starting to grow a list of subscribers.

Video is all the rage right now, but voice technology is steadily growing in popularity.
It’s going to have a really big comeback when we talk about things like Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Siri.

In the next five to ten years, we’re not going to be searching for products on our phone by physically typing in text.
We’re going to be voice-first saying, ‘”Alexa”, “Ok Google” or “Hey Siri”, and we’re going to purchase a product just like that.
There’s a lot to learn in this space, but keep an eye on it, read up about it, and see how it is effecting the trends.
