The end of 2016 is fast approaching and it’s time to establish what the marketing trends for 2017 might be!
I know right, the year has disappeared so damn fast!
Speaking of marketing, let’s look back at what happened this year.
How did social media work for you as a marketer or business owner?
What did your analytics tell you?
What types of content gained the most attention and which platforms performed best?
I hope you gained some real ROI from your marketing efforts.
Regardless of the results, we need to be looking forward and keeping an eye on the ever changing trends.
It’s time to focus on which trends will have maximum impact for your business come January 1st.
The medium that has the greatest amount of attention right now is video.
Video based content is rich and engaging.
People will stop for a number of seconds on a video to see if it is interesting before moving on, compared to a text based post that can be scrolled right past.
We all know that video based content is not going anywhere.
Facebook is driving the social video agenda with Facebook LIVE and their favouring of video content getting first preference in the news feed.
CEO Mark Zuckaberg, has stated that by 2019, 80% of content on Facebook will be video.
His reason for pushing live video is because he believes it is the closest way for humans to experience actual reality in the online world.
360 Live is streaming with the 360 degree video feature enabled. This is said to be rolled out to profiles and pages in 2017.
Instagram is also making big updates of its own!
It has released it’s own live video feature which is currently rolling out to users in the US and shortly, the rest of the world.
Instagram Live is different in that once you finish a live stream, it immediately disappears!
So, if you aren’t comfortable using Facebook Live or just want to have some fun, Instagram Live is going to be a great option for you to test the live video waters!
Which ever platform you choose, make a note of leveraging the power of live video very soon.
As far as paid advertising goes, Facebook Ads are currently the undisputed king.
The power, reach and incredible targeting that the platform offers is second to none. It is also one of the greatest forms of underpriced advertising available right now.
Facebook Ads are a marketing trend for 2017 that is all but guaranteed to grow.
The team at Facebook are making it easier and easier for business owners and entrepreneurs to utilize this tool through Power Editor.
A super powerful update just realised within Power Editor is the native split testing feature for ads that you create.
This feature allows you to create multiple ad sets and test them against each other so you can optimise for the best performers!
I suggest you seriously consider testing Facebook Ads and including it in your marketing arsenal for the new year.

Geofilters are your gateway to reaching the 150 million + daily users on Snapchat.
A geofilter is a special overlay that communicates the “where and when” of a Snap in a fun way, whether you’re sending it to a friend or adding it to your Story.
They are also a powerful marketing tool for a large range of businesses.
Snapchat is currently the number 1 platform in Australia and the US for those aged 13-25. If you are trying to target a younger demographic, Snapchat is a platform you should seriously consider.
Geofilter’s can be created for your community area or local event but also “on-demand” as a funky marketing tool for businesses.
If you are gifted with creative flare, you can design your own or you can have a professional do it for you.
There are a number of guidelines that must be followed when creating a geofilter in order for Snapchat to publish it. Be sure to read through them carefully prior to submitting your masterpiece.
I have had a great experience with the team at Levermore.co. They helped me create geofilters that met the guidelines, were ‘on brand’ and also provided the best ROI for my business.
Marketing trends for 2017?
Influencer marketing is really starting to hit it’s stride.
An influencer is someone with a following or community of engaged fans, typically on a social media platform. Keep in mind, it’s not about having 1 million followers but more about the engagement levels and community they provide.
Several recent surveys show consumers are more likely to take purchasing advice from a stranger or influencer, over a brand or business.
This is due to the fact that the stranger or influencer are not directly trying to sell you something.
The power in this type of marketing comes from the trust that is built between the influencer and their community.
The community is provided with high value content that catches their attention and feeds their interest.
When an influencer makes a recommendation, their community has the established trust that allows them to convert and make a purchase.
A number of companies now exist that help to connect business and brands with influencers. One such business is TRIBE, the creation of Australian, Jules Lund.
